Rohingya infiltrators are given asylum in India
Rohingya refugees living in tents in the capital Delhi will soon be shifted to government residences. These 250 government residences will have accommodation for a total of 1,100 refugees. In fact, while giving information on Wednesday, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Puri said that the central government has planned to provide flats with basic facilities and round-the-clock security to about 1,100 Rohingyas living in tents in Madanpur Khadar.
Puri tweeted, "India has always welcomed those who have sought asylum in the country. In a historic decision, all Rohingya refugees will be shifted to EWS flats in Delhi's Bakkarwala area. They will be provided with basic facilities, UNHCR ID and round the clock Delhi Police security." He said, “India respects and abides by the 1951 United Nations Refugee Convention. Gives refuge to all irrespective of their caste, religion or creed." Those who made a career by deliberately spreading rumors of linking India's refugee policy with the CAA will be disappointed, he said.
NDMC officials said that there are a total of 250 flats in Bakkarwala area and all 1,100 Rohingyas living in Madanpur Khadar camps will be shifted there. NDMC comes under the direct control of the Central Government in Delhi.
VHP protested
On the other hand, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has opposed it. VHP working president and senior advocate Alok Kumar said on Wednesday that we are shocked to see a statement of Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Puri. Hardeep Puri termed Rohingyas as refugees and allotted them EWS flats in Delhi's Bakkarwala. The VHP has urged the central government to reconsider the issue and make arrangements to send them out of India, instead of providing accommodation to the Rohingyas. He said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had announced in Parliament on 10 December 2020 that Rohingya would never be accepted into India.
Alok Kumar said that the Government of India has always maintained that Rohingyas are not refugees but infiltrators. The government has filed an affidavit in this regard in the Supreme Court. He said that Hindu refugees from Pakistan are living in detestable inhuman conditions in Manjnu-ka-Tila area of Delhi. In such a situation, the offer of help to the Rohingya becomes even more condemnable.
