Break on conflict between Palestinian terrorists and Israel, ceasefire enforced
A ceasefire has been implemented in Gaza to end the ongoing violence between Israeli and Palestinian terrorists. The violence killed many Palestinian civilians and affected the lives of thousands of Israelis. The ceasefire came into force after Egyptian mediation. Israel carried out air strikes minutes before the ceasefire began. Israel said it would react "strongly" if the ceasefire is violated. Israel launched strikes in Gaza on Friday, while the Iran-backed Palestinian Jihad terrorist group fired hundreds of rockets at Israel in retaliation.
Hamas, the militant group that governs Gaza, appeared to stay away from the conflict. Israel killed an Islamic Jihad leader on Friday and another prominent leader on Saturday. Khalid Mansoor, the second commander of Islamic Jihad, was killed in an airstrike on the Rafah refugee camp in southern Gaza. As his funeral began in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, the Israeli ministry said it was attacking "rocket launch posts suspected of Islamic jihad". The Israeli military said a rocket fired by Palestinian militants hit the city of Jabalia in northern Gaza late Saturday. During this many people including children died.
On Sunday, a missile hit a house in the same area of Jebalia, killing two people. Palestine has blamed Israel for this. Israel says it is investigating whether the missile hit the area due to a miss. Israel's Defense Ministry said mortars fired from Gaza fell on the Erez border post in Israel. It is used daily by thousands of Gaza residents. Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden has welcomed the ceasefire between Israel and Gaza-based terrorists. Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid's office has confirmed the ceasefire.
