World famous heritage site Hampi affected by heavy rain
Monuments at UNESCO World Heritage Site Hampi have submerged after 1.10 lakh cusecs of water was released from Tungabhadra Dam in Karnataka's Vijayanagar district. Due to incessant rains in the area, the inflow of water into the dam has increased significantly. Water has been released from 30 gates of the dam, due to which water has been flooded in Purandar Das Mandap, Salu Mandap and Dharmika Vidhi Vidhan Mandap.
Officials are releasing one lakh cusecs of water from Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) dam in Mandya district. The movement of heavy vehicles has been banned on the 200-year-old Wellesley Bridge and Ishwar Mandir Bridge in Srirangapatna city. According to officials, if the water level rises, the bridge will sink.
At the same time, there has been less rainfall in the Cauvery catchment areas of Madikeri district. Meanwhile, due to heavy rains, the water flow in the Kabini Dam in Mysore district is increasing continuously. A holiday has been declared for primary and high schools in Hassan and Belagavi districts. Hundreds of acres of farmland have been submerged in water due to the spate of Doni river in Bijapur district. Bagalkot district is also battered by incessant rains.
